HBA Baby Boomer Expo News

As you know, Andiamo Coffee is a proud member of the Health and Business Alliance on Long Island. As previously mentioned in an earlier post, the HBA is currently working to produce the "Baby Boomer Expo" to be held on October 15th, 2005.

The Baby Boomer Committee (under the leadership of Joe Adams) has been hard at work to ensure that the event is a great success and has created a "wish list" that includes the following:

  • A contact at a major book seller in Queens

  • A Queens boutique or clothing store willing to coordinate a fashion show where they can sell their products at the Expo

  • A contact at a Queens Health Club or Gym

  • Use of Walkie Talkies for the day

  • Donation of a new HBA Banner

  • Donation of Raffle / Door Prizes

The event will feature 35 vendor tables which 17 are already spoken for. Flyers to promote this event have just begun to be circulated, so if you're a vendor and would like to participate, contact Janine Regosin of the HBA now before the tables are sold out.

The current corporate sponsors for the Expo at this point include Family Care Certified Services, The Holliswood Hospital, TimesLedger Newspapers, and Lichtenstein Financial Solutions with room for 2 more.

Plus, the HBA has been approached by a major media group on Long Island that would like to partner with HBA to repeat the Expo on L.I. at some date next Spring. While the negotiations are still in the beginning stages, participation in the October event will ensure a reserved spot for the possible Spring Event.

For those who cannot reserve a vendor table, there's still other ways to participate. You can display your company's literature at the HBA table for just $100 - and you don't even have to be there. Or, you can participate on that day by volunteering your time since many "hosts" and "ambassadors" will be needed to keep things running smoothly.

All the seminar spots are full for the Expo. Adriane Berg will give one keynote address and Ellen Eichelbaum and Newsday's Ron Roel will be giving another. In addition, well known Cosmetic Surgeon (Dr. Andrew Jacono) and a unique "customer service oriented" physician (Dr. Inderpal Chabbra) will speak on cutting edge developments in their fields. Dan Schaeffer, PhD. has signed to give an "inner golf" seminar which will hopefully take strokes off your game and will even give a separate seminar on "Golf for Women"

New and exciting developments taking place every day! So don't wait to get involved in the HBA's biggest event to date. Not only are we all having fun in the planning stages, but great contacts continue to be made and you'll get to be involved with a project that's sure to be a great success.

Cupcakes Making A Comeback

According to a CBS story which you can read here, Cupcakes are making a comeback. If you knew my eating style, you'll know my response to this piece of news is "I didn't even know they were out!"

I love cupcakes... and if you're a cupcake fan as well, trust me when I tell you there's nothing better than waking up to your favorite cup of Andiamo Coffee's Mocha Java and enjoying a chocolate cupcake to go with it.

I guess it's news to me that Mocha Java's making a comeback as well!

Lastest Research Tauts Coffee Health Benefits

We've all had those nights where we may have had one drink too many. And how many times have you heard that old wives' tale about drinking coffee to sober up?

Well, now comes word from a recent Japanese study which shows that drinking coffee may lessen liver damage from, among other things, drinking too much alcohol. The research shows that drinkers of one or two cups of coffee each day are 30% less likely than non-coffee drinkers to contract liver cancer. In addition, a new National Institutes of Health study determined that the caffeine and anti-oxidants in coffee were the catalysts for their findings that those at high risk of liver damage who drank more than 2 cups of coffee daily showed half as much liver damage as non-coffee drinkers.

We at Andiamo Coffee advocate moderation in everything, but it's nice to know the latest research proves our quality product has more going for it than just great taste.

Don't Let Your Gourmet Coffee Stale

When coffee beans come out of the roaster, you can't just package them right up ready for sale (although it would be nice if you could). You first need to account for the process known as de-gassing, which occurs when trapped gasses escape from the freshly roasted beans. It's this process that gives coffee its excellent flavor and aroma - it's also the process that ages and stales the beans as well.

Coffee needs a day or so to de-gas in order to achieve its peak flavor. Then, once it's packaged, the packaging has a one-way air valve to allow gas to escape as this process continues. Unfortunately, aroma and flavor escape as well. The longer the coffee stays in the bag, the staler it becomes. That's why it's so much better to buy whole bean coffee and ground it as you need it for that delicious fresh cup.

And you can't get fresher coffee than the beans that Andiamo Coffee provides its customers.
